2023 Altec Aerial Device recalls

Defect: Altec Industries, Inc. (Altec) is recalling certain 2023-2026 Service Body, Aerial Device, Pressure Digger, Spray Truck, and Digger Derrick vehicles. The low tire pressure rating printed on the final stage certification label is incorrect.

Why it matters: An incorrect pressure rating may lead to underinflated tires, increasing the risk of a tire blowout or a crash.

The Gross Axle Weight Rating (GAWR) listed on the vehicle certification label may be incorrect, leading to the vehicle being unintentionally overloaded.

Why it matters: A cable step that fails during use increases the risk of injury.

Altec will provide owners with instructions to inspect the cable crimps. If the cables are improperly crimped, Altec will provide instructions and a kit to replace the wire rope assemblies. Why it matters: A fuel leak in the presence of an ignition source can increase the risk of a fire.

Altec will provide owners with instructions to inspect the fuel lines. If the lines are improperly secured, Altec will provide a kit to secure the lines. (Altec) is recalling certain 2023-2024 aerial devices, digger diggers, pressure diggers, service trucks, reel lifters, pressure washers, and articulating crane models built on a Freightliner M2 Plus chassis. Please refer to Altec's recall report for specific vehicle make and model details. The lighting wire harness may be overloaded, preventing the vehicle lighting from illuminating. As such, these vehicles fail to comply with the requirements of Federal Motor Vehicle Safety Standard (FMVSS) number 108, "Lamps, Reflective Devices, and Associated Equipment.".

Why it matters: Lights that fail to illuminate can reduce the vehicle's visibility to other drivers, increasing the risk of a crash.

Why it matters: Uncontrolled movement of the boom can increase the risk of injury.

The power inverter that converts electrical DC power to AC power may have been installed without a circuit breaker to protect the AC output circuit.

Why it matters: Without a circuit breaker, the AC circuit may overheat, increasing the risk of a fire.
