2022 Altec Digger Derrick recalls

Defect: Altec Industries, Inc. (Altec) is recalling certain 2019-2026 AN Series, 2023 AA Series, 2022-2026 Digger Derrick, and 2025 AM Series vehicles. The Bendix automatic braking system was not recalibrated after relocating the front radar box.

Why it matters: An improperly calibrated system may have a delayed braking response, increasing the risk of a crash.

Altec will update the collision mitigation system with the revised the parameters, recalibrate, and test the system, free of charge. Why it matters: An engine that starts unexpectedly increases the risk of injury to anyone near the engine compartment during maintenance operations.

Defect: Altec Industries Inc. (Altec) is recalling certain 2011-2025 Aerial Device, Digger Derrick, and 2022-2025 Service Body vehicles. The cable step wire rope assembly may be improperly secured, which can allow the cable entry step to detach from the vehicle.

Why it matters: A cable step that fails during use increases the risk of injury.

Altec will provide owners with instructions to inspect the cable crimps. If the cables are improperly crimped, Altec will provide instructions and a kit to replace the wire rope assemblies. The power inverter that converts electrical DC power to AC power may have been installed without a circuit breaker to protect the AC output circuit.

Why it matters: Without a circuit breaker, the AC circuit may overheat, increasing the risk of a fire.

Why it matters: An auger extension bar that detaches while the digger drive unit is deployed, can increase the risk of injury to nearby personnel.

Altec will provide instructions for owners to inspect the auger extension assembly for missing hardware. Defect: Altec Industries, Inc. (Altec) is recalling certain 2022 DC & DM Series Digger Derrick vehicles. During production, an incorrect bolt may have been used to attach the derrick rotation bearing.

Why it matters: An incorrect bolt in the derrick rotation bearing may cause the adjacent bolts to be overloaded during operation, which could cause separation of the rotation bearing, and increase the risk of an injury.

The relay connectors may have been reattached to the incorrect plug after a stability test was performed. If the connections are not correct, the hydraulic overload protection system will not function.

Why it matters: A nonfunctional overload protection system may result in the operator unknowingly overloading the system, increasing the risk of injury.
